Pointille Heart Art

This was so much fun to do.
I felt like a little kid playing in paint.
I'm working on some frames for the gallery wall, but this was so quick and easy I just had to squeeze it in before Valentines. :)
Isn't this adorable??
I used my iPhone for most of the pictures and I'm surprised how well they came out.... Works for me!

Pointillism is a technique of painting in which, small distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image. Have you ever seen this type of art?  I've seen it done with tiny pictures that then create a larger picture.
It's really neat.

Anyway, you won't believe how easy this was....
I thought I'd do a test run before I started on the canvas.  Who wants to mess up a perfectly good canvas? So, here is my first try at it.
I wasn't sure if I wanted a painted background or what color I wanted to use.  Definitely didn't like the painted background. The more I thought about it, I decided to use orange.  That way I could still display it after Valentine's Day.
So, here goes.
I didn't want to have to stay in the lines.
So, I used some old contact paper I had on hand, and used it as a stencil.
I traced and cut out a heart.
The contact paper didn't stick well to the canvas,
but it didn't move around much either.
Then all I did was get out my tangerine acrylic paint and a pencil
with an eraser on the end.
Dip and paint... Dip and paint.
I wanted a pretty crisp edge, see how I painted right on the contact paper?
More dipping and painting...
I'm getting there.  Doesn't it look cool?
Almost done....

Isn't the pattern interesting.
Man, I love orange... It just makes me smile :)
Then I just popped it in a frame.
I still need to do a little Valentines display.
I'll be adding this little piece.
Fun, right??
Do you decorate or do a display for
Valentine's Day?

Blessings,
Lori
