Simple Inexpensive Floral Letter

These floral letters are sooo gorgeous! And this one in particular came out perfect! I know I'm bragging a bit, but look at it!! I'm swooning....💕

Easy Floral Letter

I hit Hobby Lobby when their flowers were on sale for 50% off! I know I will need a lot of these for the wedding, but I planned on using some for my daughter's shower.

My cart's pretty full, right??!! 😊

Okay let me show you how I made this

Simple Inexpensive Floral Letter

All the DIY's I checked out used a wood or chipboard letter as their base. Well, I really didn't want to spend a lot of $$ here. I knew there was a cheaper way! I used a cardboard box! Yep, cardboard!

Cardboard for letter

Which actually works out well, because if you want to hang it on the wall, it will be nice and light.

I used a basic letter template. I didn't want anything fancy. So, I drew it out on paper and cut it out.

Then I traced it onto the cardboard. Now cardboard usually has a "bend/grain" to it. So what I did was I traced it one way and cut it out then traced another one turning against the "bend" and cut that out. I placed arrows on this picture just to point out the direction of the "bend/grain".

Cardboard Letter Cut Out

Putting the two together should prevent the cardboard from bending and give a sturdy base for the flowers. I glued them together with a glue stick.

I didn't want my letter brown, so I covered it with white paper.

Now comes the fun part!!

White Letter Ready

I cut off all the stems off the flowers I was going to use.

This is just a random placement. I couldn't wait to see what it was going to look like. There's a 'B' in there somewhere. 😉

Random flower placement

Time to get to work! I plugged in my glue gun. First, I started with some greens. I wasn't sure what was really going to show, but it seemed like a good place to start. You can add more later.

Adding greens to Floral Letter

I strategically placed some flowers that were the same, because it makes your eye "draw" a line to form the letter.

Placing Flowers on Floral Letter

I just kept placing and glueing flowers all around. Keeping in mind the shape of the letter. Tiny flowers were perfect in filling in small spots here and there.

Another tip is you need to cut each flower down to the base, where it is almost flat. Now, some flowers like the daisies didn't have much depth to them. They were an already flat flower, so I left a bit of the stem and glued that really well.

Placing Flowers on Floral Letter

While I was making this, my husband texted my daughter and told here that I was making little happy "noises"...😂  apparently I was enjoying myself! 💕

I was so happy with this little creation! Here's where we placed it at my daughter's shower.

Bridal Shower

I feel like this is something she can use at the wedding or in her home later.

You may want to Pin It for later!😊

  3. Hello from Toronto, Canada. This is beautiful. I really suck in art, but it's so beautiful that I want to attempt to make one for my daughter's birthday party. She's turning 3 in a few weeks. My worry is how well the base of the flowers will stick to the cardboard. Did you glue the petals directly on the cardboard? Thanks!

  6. Do you think using glass beads from the dollar store will also work? I'm not a flower type of girl...

    1. I don't see why not! you just need to make sure that the cardboard is sturdy enough to hold the weight of the glass beads. Thanks for stopping by!!

    1. Hi Kate! Oh, that sounds so pretty! Maybe a loop of fishing line would work. Or just poking a hold in the cardboard back and hooking it on a nail. Or using a thumbtack to tack it to the wall. Hope it all works out! Blessings!
