The pool table is sooo much fun!
Hubs and I have been playing quite a bit.
I need to practice or something, because EVERYONE beats me! Pretty much the only way I beat hubby is when he scratches the 8 ball. I don't find that much of a win, especially when I still have 3-7 balls still on the table.
Oh, well! Be a big girl, Lori... :)
This pool table idea seemed a bit crazy at first.
You can read about it here in
I had started searching on Craigslist for pool tables and found this little place about an hour away that sold used pool tables. There were so many to choose from. I should have took pictures. We definitely wanted a furniture style one. The owners were so informative. We picked this one, because we liked the color of the wood, the curves of the legs, the claw feet and the color of the felt. It seemed like a good fit for our home.
We were so glad they offered delivery and installation. Especially since, we had no idea what an ordeal it was to install a pool table.
It's actually pretty extensive.
So, I thought I'd share with you how it went.
Hubby took all the pics, I think he did a pretty good job! Thanks, Honey!!
First, came in the frame.
That was the easy part.
I just love the color and curves of the wood. Plus you get a nice look at the new rug we purchased.
Next came the pieces of slate.
They only weigh about 100 lbs. a piece, and there are three pieces...
That table isn't going anywhere.
The slate pieces get screwed into the frame.
It's extremely important that the table is completely level. I've had a ball stop on the very edge of the pocket and NOT roll in!
This next part was so fascinating to me!
They filled in all the seams and holes with wax!
Isn't that cool?
They scraped away all of the excess til it was completely smooth.
Now it's time to add the felt.
The felt is stretched onto the slate. They used spray glue to attach it. Doesn't that look cool? I love this next pic.
Next, the rails get assembled
Then they attached the rails to the frame.
Then we were ready to shoot some pool!
We are really pleased with how it turned out.
So, Hubs and I were shooting some pool, and talking about how crazy it sounded at first. Who puts a pool table in their formal living room? But we both agree, it has been one of the best decisions we've made. We love it!!
Next up some paint, board and batten, some lighting and decor! Fun! Fun!!
What do you think of our crazy idea??
I am so happy I came across The Stonybrook Home--I had just said to my husband recently that maybe we could put a pool table in the living room instead of the typical couch, chair, TV, etc. and I think he thought I was just joking! I am so glad someone else thinks like me! What are the dimensions of your living room? I don't know how much space around a pool table would be needed to actually play and accommodate the cue length when shooting. Actually, I came across this site while searching for barn door inside the house ideas--you have done basically what I was thinking! We used to have french doors into our dining room, but I thought the doors took up too much space when opened(the room is not that big). However, I still liked to have the option of closing off that room. The barn door idea seems perfect--thanks for all the great info and photos you provided. So you just bought everything at Home Depot?
