Hubby and I decided to make pizza for dinner.
So, I set to making the pizza dough. It's a very easy recipe. But I noticed as it was mixing in the mixer it wasn't balling up like dough normally would. I got my spatula in there to help it, and I got some on my finger. I admit it... I licked it!! It tasted different, but I couldn't put my finger on it. (hardy har har) Hmm, that tasted different. It still would not ball up. This is weird. So, I added more flour. Thinking it would stiffen up.
It didn't.
So, I lifted the mixer and was looking at it, dumbfounded. I tasted it again. Something is not right here....
Then I saw it....
See, I put a little circle around it....
Only when I pulled it out of the pantry the label was facing the back.
I made pizza dough with pancake mix.
I buy the boxed pancake mix where you just add water. When the kids are home we go through quite a bit of it, so I usually dump about 2 boxes or so in the tupperware container.
Hahaha! I got a good laugh out that one!
So, I set it aside and made the real pizza dough for dinner.
I'm thinking what in the world am I going to do
with a batch of sweet pizza dough?
with a batch of sweet pizza dough?
I just couldn't bring myself to throw it away....
I thought, well, let's just try making some drop rolls out of it and see what happens.
Dropped them on a cookie sheet and baked at 350 for 10 minutes.
And this is how they came out!
OMG! They were sooo good. Hubby and I went a little nuts on them. We don't keep a lot of sweets in the house... :) We had the honey out with our zero calorie spray butter.
They kinda tasted like the sweet rolls you get at Texas Roadhouse. YUM!!

Hubby said, I MUST make these again!!
Here's the recipe. Enjoy!!
Sweet Roll/Pizza Dough Recipe:
3 cups of Pancake mix/or flour
1 Tbl. of yeast
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1 cup warm water
2 Tbl. oil
First, mix all the dry ingredients. Then add the wet.
Mix til combined.
Sweet Roll: The sweet roll mix will not stiffen to a ball like the pizza dough. The dough did set out and rise a bit, then I just used a teaspoon and dropped them on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes.
Pizza Dough: Set the pizza dough to rise for a bit longer, about 20-30 minutes. Then flatten out on a cookie sheet and make your pizza. I usually bake that at 450 for 10 minutes.
In the mishap of the whole dough thing, I realized I didn't have pizza sauce to make pizza... So, we make a calzone with it. That was good too! Yum! :)
If you like it PIN it!
