Happy Valentines Day!
I'm a little late to the game with Valentines decor, but hey why not...
I'm not into decorating my house for every single holiday.
I refuse to hang easter eggs from my trees outside.
That is definitely not going to happen ever!
(and I hear my kiddos and hubby saying "Thank The Lord!!)
To be honest, I wasn't sure I was going to do anything,
but maybe I needed it a bit today.
With the big "Noreaster" we had yesterday, hubby's run got postponed a day and he's going to be overnight in Delaware. As I was chatting with him on the phone today, he told me,
"I think this is the first time in 28 years we haven't spent Valentine's Day together...."
I think he's right. Now, I'm going to miss him even more.
But our relationship is greater than Valentine's Day. It's 26 years of marriage greater!
So...
What makes our marriage strong?
I'm not a marriage counselor, but this is what seems to be working for us.
(but if we were having serious issues, we'd be seeing a counselor that's for sure!)
1. Our relationship with Jesus.
That reminds us that we are both sinners saved by His grace.
We both have faults, and neither one of us is greater than the other.
We need grace everyday.
2. We are committed to each other.
Being committed means you don't give up.
We work at it. Marriage takes work.
So, when things aren't going "our" way. We work it out.
Always.
3. Spend time together.
Whether it's a date night, playing cards, or simply enjoying coffee together.
It's important to focus on each other without distractions.
4. Be selfless.
This world seems to focus on me me me.
Have it your way.
But in a marriage, it's about being thoughtful and helpful to your spouse.
Me, I bring him coffee in bed almost every morning he's home.
We do little things for each other.
And if you've been married any length of time, you will understand
that it's the little things that make the difference.
5. Say I love you.
Hubs and I say I love you everyday, and not just with words.
In a gentle squeeze of the hand, in a look, with a kiss, in a note.
There are many ways to say I love you.
Enjoy this day of love.
(I love you, honey!)
I think these Bible verses pretty much sums it up!
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1Corinthians 13:4-7
Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love. 1Corinthians 13:8
Blessings,
Congrats on 26 years of marriage, commitment and love!
